  • Nine softball players make ALl-Nebraska team, Kelly named captain

    Western Nebraska Community College’s Michaela Kelly was named captain and eight other Cougar softball players earned placements on the Omaha World-Herald All-Nebraska JUCO team that was recently released. Kelly, a sophomore third baseman was named the captain of the team after a strong season for the Cougars, who captured the Region IX championship over McCook Community College in May. Four more Cougars earned First Team honors, including sophomore pitcher Emma McMillan and freshman pitcher Mickie Mills. Also garnering First Team honors were freshman catcher Bri George and freshman outfielder Emma Glawson.
  • WNCC softball falls to Butler, ends season 35-20

    It was an emotional end to the Western Nebraska Community College softball team’s season Wednesday evening in the NJCAA District E playoff with Butler Community College. The two regional champions came in with a combined 75 wins and the two hooked up in two tight, emotional contests.
  • WNCC hosts Butler in district finals Wednesday

    The Western Nebraska Community College and Butler Community College softball teams bring a combined 75 wins into Wednesday’s District E Final at Volunteer Field. WNCC, who captured the Region IX championship on Saturday by downing McCook Community College 14-5, enters the District E final with a 35-18 record. Butler enters the best two-of-three series with a 40-6 record and a No. 10 ranking in the latest ranking in the national polls. Wednesday’s first pitch is slated for 4 p.m. with the second game around 6 p.m. The if-necessary game is scheduled for noon on Thursday.
  • Region IX Champs: WNCC softball team tops McCook for the title

    For the first time since 2016, the Western Nebraska Community College softball team captured the Region IX Tournament championship with a dominating 14-5 win over McCook Community College in the title game on Saturday afternoon at Volunteer Field in Scottsbluff. The Cougars won all three of their tournament games. WNCC beat McCook in the first round and Trinidad State Junior College on Friday before knocking off McCook again in the final.
  • WNCC softball wons twice at regional, move to championship game Saturday

    The Western Nebraska Community College softball team won twice on Friday in contrasting fashion in the first day of the Region IX Tournament at Volunteer Field in Scottsbluff. WNCC opened the game with a dramatic 3-2 win over McCook Community College as Bri George had a walk-off 2-run, 2-out single for the win. WNCC built off the McCook win as Emma McMillan tossed a 2-hitter and the Cougars scored five first-inning runs in taking out Trinidad State Junior College 7-1.
  • WNCC softball team ready to open regional tourney on Friday at Volunteer Field

    The Western Nebraska Community College softball team will be entering the Region IX tournament as one of the favorites to bring home a regional title when the tournament kicks off Friday at Volunteer Field in Scottsbluff. The top-seeded Cougars, 32-18 on the season and winners of 16 of their last 18 games, will be host to the tournament and open tournament play at 11 a.m. on Friday against fourth-seeded McCook Community College. The other first-round game pits No. 2 Otero Junior College against No. 3 Trinidad State Junior College at 2 p.m. The championship game is slated for 3 p.m. Saturday with the winner hosting the district finals against the winner of the Kansas region.
  • WNCC softball sweeps McCook, hosts regionals next week

    Michaela Kelly and Bri George each hit grand slams and the Western Nebraska Community College softball team took a doubleheader from McCook Community College on Saturday. The first game was the completion of an Easter Sunday suspended game because of rain. When it was resumed Saturday with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth, Kelly delivered a grand slam to help the Cougars to the 10-4 win. The second game saw McCook jump on top 3-1 before the Cougars put together a big innings in the fifth and sixth, thanks to a George grand slam for the 9-4 win.
  • WNCC softball team tops NJC for 30th win of the season

    The Western Nebraska Community College softball team used some timely hitting as the Cougars won their seventh straight and their 30th win of the season in claiming a doubleheader sweep over Northeastern Junior College Friday afternoon at Volunteer Field. The Cougars used a sixth-inning, 2-run home run from Mickie Mills in the first game to claim a 6-5 win. The second game saw Mills pick up the complete game pitching performance in leading the Cougars to the 7-3 win.
  • Kelly, George each hit three home runs to lead Cougars past NJC
    April 24, 2019
    Bri George and Michaela Kelly each homered three times and the Western Nebraska Community College softball claimed two wins over Northeastern Junior College on Tuesday and closed to one win from hosting the Region IX tournament May 8-11. Reagan Solomon tossed a 2-hitter and George and Kelly homered twice in the first game as the Cougars won 15-0 over the Plainswomen. The second game saw the Cougars put up 15 hits in five innings, including home runs by George and Kelly in earning the 12-4 win.
  • Sunday’s WNCC softball game suspended because of rain

    The Western Nebraska Community College and McCook Community College softball teams were hoping to get a doubleheader in on Easter Sunday. The two teams got the first game started under just cloudy skies. But as the innings passed, the drizzle and rain kept persistent.

    The Western Nebraska Community College softball team put together two completely different wins in topping Lamar Community College Saturday afternoon at Volunteer Field. Emma McMillan tossed a 3-hitter while striking out three in leading the Cougars to a 2-0 win in the first game. The second game saw Mickie Mills and Bri George launch home runs in a 12-1, 5-inning win.
  • WNCC softball splits with Trinidad State

    The Western Nebraska Community College softball team had to start a new win streak Tuesday after the Cougars and Trinidad State Junior College split a doubleheader at Volunteer Field. Trinidad’s Teddi Garcia held the Cougar bats in check, striking out eight in game one in leading the Trojans to a 5-3 win. The second game saw Michaela Kelly, Bri George, and Hannah Baesler belt back-to-back solo home runs in the fourth to hold on for a 5-4 win.
  • WNCC tops McCook, McMillan ties school record with 15 Ks in game one win

    MCCOOK – The Western Nebraska Community College softball team took a doubleheader from McCook Community College on Sunday in contrasting styles. The opener saw Emma McMillan tie a school record for strikeouts by a pitcher with 15 batters fanned and then came through with the game-winning hit in the 10th inning to help WNCC to a 6-4 10-inning win. The second contest saw a 4-hit, shutout performance from Emma Glawson in earning the run-ruled 9-0 win.
  • WNCC softball wins 7th straight with sweep over McCook
    April 15, 2019
    MCCOOK – The Western Nebraska Community College softball team captured its seventh straight win after taking four from McCook Community College Sunday and Monday in McCook, Nebraska. After capturing both games on Sunday, WNCC continued excelling on all cylinders with two more wins Monday. The opener Mickie Mills earn a strong pitching performance in pitching the Cougars to a 10-2 6-inning win in game one. The second contest saw Michaela Kelly deliver two home runs and four RBIs for the 15-6 win.
  • Michaela Kelly signs with Marymount California University

    Western Nebraska Community College softball player Michaela Kelly will be continuing her softball playing for the next two years at Marymount California University in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, after she finishes her sophomore year with the Cougars. Kelly said she is excited to be continuing her playing at the next level with the Mariners.

    The Western Nebraska Community College softball team likes to add drama to its games and Sunday afternoon was no different. A day after the Cougar softball team won on a 3-run walk-off home run by Hannah Baesler in Saturday’s 16-14 win, the Cougar softball team used some late inning magic on Sunday to post two wins over No. 18 Otero Junior College at Volunteer Field. The first game saw WNCC get some clutch hits in the eighth inning from a game-tying solo home run by Bri George and a run-scoring double by Emma Glawson that scored Baesler from first with a heads-first slide into home plate for the game winner and the 11-10 extra inning win. The second game saw WNCC pound out 15 hits with a five RBI game from Michaela Kelly which included a 3-run home run that hit the second fence on the fly for the 12-9 win.

    Hannah Baesler hit for the cycle in game two, including a 3-run walk-off home run to help the Western Nebraska Community College softball team capture a 16-14 come-from-behind win over No. 18 Otero Junior College Saturday at Volunteer Field. The first game saw Otero capture a 10-6 win. The two teams will be back in action Sunday for another doubleheader beginning at noon in key conference contests.

    LA JUNTA, Colo. - Mickie Mills blasted three homers and drove in five runs in the Western Nebraska Community College softball team's 15-6 win over Otero Junior College on Saturday afternoon in La Junta, Colorado. The teams split the conference doubleheader as Otero earned a 6-3 win in the opening game.

    LAMAR, Colo. – The Western Nebraska Community College softball team split a conference doubleheader with Lamar Community College on Saturday in Lamar, Colorado. The opener saw Lamar scored four runs in the seventh to earn the walk-off 9-7 win. The second game saw WNCC’s offense come alive with 16 hits with five doubles and two home runs in registering the 5-inning 16-4 win.

    LAMAR, Colo. – The Western Nebraska Community College softball team took 3 of 4 from Lamar Community College over the weekend, including taking a doubleheader on Sunday from the Lopes in conference action. WNCC received a complete-game pitching performance from Emma McMillan in the first game as the sophomore allowed just three hits in helping the Cougars to the 8-1 win. The second game saw the Cougars pound out 14 hits and score in five of the seven innings in recording the 14-5 win.

    STERLING, Colo. – Michaela Kelly drove in nine and the Western Nebraska Community College softball tea took two from Northeastern Junior College in conference action Tuesday afternoon in Sterling, Colorado. The first game game saw Mickie Mills toss a 3-hitter while striking out nine as the Cougars captured the 11-1 win. The second game saw Kelly drive in five as the Cougars put up 16 runs on 15 hits in the 16-4 win.
  • WNCC falls to No. 3 Tyler

                    TYLER, Texas – The Western Nebraska Community College softball team showed they can compete against top 10 ranked teams but in the end the No. 3-ranked Tyler Junior College Apaches claimed a doubleheader from the Cougars Wednesday in Tyler, Texas.                 WNCC outhit Tyler in the first game 10-8 but fell 6-3 for the final score. The second game saw the Cougars drop a 7-3 contest to the Apaches.
  • WNCC softball goes 1-3 against Angelina College

                     LUFKIN, Texas – The Western Nebraska Community College softball team started their Spring Break trip by going 1-3 against Angelina College over the weekend.                 WNCC opened the trip on Saturday dropping two games 13-4 and 9-1. Sunday was a different story as the Cougars captured the first game in dramatic fashion 7-6 before falling in the nightcap 10-0.
  • WNCC softball drops games to Bossier Paris

                    BOSSIER, La. – The Western Nebraska Community College softball team continued their Spring Break in playing tough but falling twice to Bossier Parish Community College Monday afternoon in Bossier, Louisiana.                 Bossier Paris won the first game 6-1 and then Bossier scored four runs in the middle innings to earn a 7-4 win in game two.

                    TRINIDAD, Colo. – The Western Nebraska Community College softball team opened conference action Friday falling twice to defending Region IX champions Trinidad State Junior College in Trinidad, Colorado.                 The first game saw Trinidad score seven runs in the middle innings to capture the 9-3 win. The second contest saw Trinidad score six early runs in capturing the 10-5 win.
  • WNCC scores 31 runs in sweep over Trinidad

                    TRINIDAD, Colo. –The Western Nebraska Community College softball team rebounded from Friday in earning a pair of run-ruled wins over Trinidad State Junior College in conference action Saturday afternoon in Trinidad, Colorado, in cold temperatures.                 The first game saw WNCC plate seven, third-inning runs to capture the 9-1, five-inning contest. The second contest saw WNCC explode for 22 runs and 20 hits, including five RBI games from Emma Glawson and Michaela Kelly in registering a 22-7 win in six innings.
  • WNCC softball splits with Northern Oklahoma-Enid

    ENID, Okla. – The Western Nebraska Community College softball team split a doubleheader with Northern Oklahoma-Enid on Friday in Enid, Oklahoma. The first game saw NOC-Enid score five times in the first inning to register the 6-3 win. The second contest saw Devon Rees knock in four with a home run and double in registering the 13-6 win.
  • WNCC softball takes doubleheader from 14th-ranked Highland

                    ENID, Okla. – The Western Nebraska Community College softball team scored 24 runs in taking a doubleheader from NJCAA Division II 14th-ranked Highland Community College Saturday afternoon in Enid, Oklahoma.                 In the first game, Kendall Glasgow smashed two home runs in leading the Cougars to a 10-6 win. The second game saw Abriana Ramirez get four hits with a home run and five RBIs, including scoring the winning run int eh seventh in leading the Cougars to a 14-13 win.
  • WNCC softball sweeps Garden City

    GARDEN CITY, Kan. – The Western Nebraska Community College softball team put together timely hitting in taking a doubleheader from Garden City Community College in Garden City, Kansas, on Thursday. In the opener, Emma McMillan tossed a 4-hit shutout as the Cougars earned an 8-0, six-inning win over the Broncbusters. The second game saw WNCC get 12 hits in earning the 12-4, six-inning victory.
  • Rees hits grand slam, softball falls to Howard
    February 08, 2019
    BIG SPRINGS, Texas – The Western Nebraska Community College softball team suffered a doubleheader loss to Howard College on Thursday. In the first game, WNCC started the game with five, first-inning runs, but Howard responded back to earn the 14-7 win. The second game saw WNCC fall behind early and never could take the lead in falling 13-5.
