Softball Sweeps Western Nebraska

BULLARD -- The No. 3 Tyler Junior College Apache Ladies stretched their winning streak to 13 games after sweeping Western Nebraska in a softball doubleheader on Wednesday at Schwab Field.

TJC won 9-0 and 15-2, both five-inning games. Rebecca Snow had a grand slam in the second game.

The Apache Ladies (27-2) were scheduled to play on Friday in Corsicana for a Region XIV doubleheader against Navarro College, but the game has been postponed and will be rescheduled.

After Friday's games, TJC returns home to face Kilgore College in a DH in Bullard on Monday. The first game is scheduled for noon.

Western Nebraska (5-15) lost to TJC twice on Monday and twice to Trinity Valley on Tuesday. The Lady Cougars visit Angelina on Thursday for games at 3 and 5 p.m. before taking on Navarro in Corsicana on Saturday (1 and 3 p.m.).

In the first game, a 9-0 victory, Abbie Dart and Julia Knight combined on a one-hitter. Dart threw three innings and did not allow a hit while striking out five. Knight pitched the final two innings, giving up the hit and striking out two.

Brittany Gayler and Jaden Lance belted home runs for Tyler, while Knight, Shelbi Court, Snow and Kaycie Moore all had doubles.

Mackenie Ryan and McKenzie Peet had two hits each for the Apache Ladies with Makenzie Goswick adding a single.

Lance, Snow and Gayler each had two RBIs with Court, Ryan and Moore adding one each.

Reagan Solomon had a double for the Lady Cougars.

In the second game, Western Nebraska took a 2-0 lead before TJC stormed back for eight runs in the bottom of the first.

Snow had a grand slam for Tyler with Moore and Gayler adding doubles.

Lance had four hits with three RBIs, while Snow also had a single. Peet had two hits and three RBIs with Moore adding two hits and an RBI.

Dart, Kaycee Parker and Kaytlin Moore had singles. Parker and Kaytlin Moore also had RBIs.

Madi Jackson, Gabby Loya, Michaela Kelly and Emma McMillan had singles for the Lady Cougars with Loya and Kelly driving in runs.

Audrey Pickett pitched four innings in getting the win. She allowed four hits and two runs, of which one was earned. She struck out one. Knight finished out the game by striking out two in one inning of work.
