    -- Female Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending December 11 -- -- Adelina Urtane, Women's Basketball -- Adelina Urtane, a sophomore from Aizkraukle, Latvia, continued to have a productive season as she tallied four straight double-figure games in the last four outings. She also has scored double figures in 9 of the last 10 games. At the Gillette tourney, Adelina finished with 41 points with three treys and 4-for-4 from the charity stripe along with 17 rebounds, two assists, and three steals. She had a double of 11 rebounds and 13 points in a win over then unbeaten North Dakota School of Science. Adelina is averaging 13.2 points, 6.9 rebounds, and is shooting 81.6 from the charity stripe.

    -- Male Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending December 11 -- -- Isaiah St. Preux, Men's Basketball -- Isaiah St. Preux, a freshman guard from Miramar, Florida, wrapped up the first semester with three straight double-figure games. Against Little Big Horn, Isaiah had 24 points followed by a 26-point effort against Miles, and then 15 points in a home win over Casper College on December 10. In the last four games, Isaiah 73 points with six 3-pointers and going 11-of-12 from the free throw line. Isaiah is averaging 9.3 points a game and shooting 77.3 percent from beyond the arc.
  • Female Athlete of the of the Week for week ending November 24 -- Lidia Hernandez
    -- Female Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending November 24 -- -- Lidia Hernandez, Women's Basketball -- Lidia Hernandez, a freshman from Madrid, Spain, had two big games in a classic in Twin Falls, Idaho. In the contest against College of Southern Idaho, Lidia had a double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds. She also was 7-of-9 shooting from the field with two assists, three steals, and a blocked shot. She also had 10 points in the game with Utah State Eastern at the CSI Classic where she had 10 points, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

    -- Male Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending November 24 -- -- Elijah Hollins, Men's Basketball -- Elijah Hollins, a sophomore transfer, had a good week last week in four games where he scored a total of 67 points and had 14 3-pointers. Hollins had 31 points in a game against Gillette where he had seven 3-pointers. He also scored 15 against College of Southern Idaho and 16 against Colorado Northwestern. Elijah is averaging 17.1 points a game and is shooting 36 percent from beyond the arc.
  • Female Athlete of the Week -- Nataly Dunka, Women's Basketball

    -- Female Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending November 16 -- -- Nataly Dunka, Women's Basketball -- Nataly Dunka, a sophomore from Brazil, scored double figures in three games last week in three wins. Natalie scored a total of 50 points, with nine rebounds and making 2 triples and going 14-of-17 from the charity stripe. Nataly had 19 points and six rebounds in a win on the road against EWC with 6-of-8 from the charity stripe. In the Fairfield Inn Cougar Classic, She scored 16 points while going 6-of-7 from the free throw line against LCC in a win and then had 15 points with three rebounds and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe. For the season, Nataly is averaging 13.8 points and 3.5 rebounds a game. Natalyhas made 15-of-19 from the free throw line.
  • Male Athlete of the Week -- Kellon Harris, Men's Basketball

    -- Male Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending November 16 -- -- Kellon Harris, Men's Basketball -- Kellon Harris, a redshirt freshman from Scottsbluff, had a nice week last week with an all-around game in the overtime loss to EWC and the win over LCCC. In the two games, Kellon scored 21 points against LCCC with three triples, and six rebounds while connecting on 6-of-8 from the charity stripe. In the LCCC win, Kellon had 15 points with three 3-pointers, six rebounds, four assists and a steal. For the year, Kellon is averaging 15.6 points and 6.8 rebounds a game while burying 11 threes and making 13-of-15 free throws for 86.7 percent.
  • Female Athlete of the Week -- Chloe Grady

    -- Female Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending October 27 -- -- Chloe Grady, Volleyball -- Chloe Grady, a sophomore from Hawaii, had a consistent week last week in three matches where she had 18 kills in three wins over EWC, Lamar, and McCook. In the sub-region wins against Lamar and McCook, she had seven kills each and hit .778 in the Lamar win. She also tallied eight blocks in the three wins. For the year, Grady has 114 kills and 83 blocks, including 19 solo blocks.
  • Male Athlete of the Week -- Simon Echeverry
    October 31, 2024
    -- Male Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending October 27 -- -- Simon Echeverry, Men's Soccer -- Simon Echeverry, a sophomore from Bogota, Colombia, helped the Cougars to a semi-final win over LCCC last Saturday 1-0. Echeverry recorded the assist as he showed his team-play in dishing off the ball to a wide-open Eduardo Oliveira with under eight minutes to play for the 1-0 win and move the Cougars into the Region IX Finals against Otero that will be played in Scottsbluff November 2. Echeverry has scored just one goal and two assists this season but it is overall play on the field that makes him a key member.
  • Female Athlete of the Week -- Emily VIllagomez

    -- Female Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending October 13 -- -- Emily Villagomez, Women's Soccer -- Emily Villagomez, a sophomore from Aurora, Colorado, recorded 34 saves in a 2-1 loss to Central Wyoming College on October 12. Central Wyoming had 42 shots in the contest. She also had nine saves in a 4-0 loss to Northwest on October 11.
  • Male Athlete of the Week -- Lucas Ovalle
    October 19, 2024
    -- Male Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending October 13 -- -- Lucas Ovalle, Men's Soccer -- Lucas Ovalle, a sophomore from Chile, had the game-winning goal in the 3-2 win over Central Wyoming College on October 12. The contest was tied at 1-1 at halftime and then 2-2 in the second half. In the 76th minute, Ovalle took a pass from Eduardo Oliveira and put the ball into the back of the net.
  • Female Athlete of the Week -- Taylor Tyser
    October 10, 2024
    -- Female Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending October 7 -- -- Taylor Tyser, Volleyball -- Taylor Tyser, a sophomore libero from Laramie, Wyoming, was named the NJCAA Defensive Player of the Week this week for an outstanding week, which included a match high 33 digs in a win over Laramie County. For the three matches last week, Taylor finished with 62 digs, eight set assists, three aces, two kills, and had 14 service points. Taylor is about 130 digs away for her 1,000 career dig.
  • Male Athlete of the Week -- Eduardo Oliveira

    -- Male Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending October 7 -- -- Eduardo Oliveira, Men's Soccer -- Eduardo Oliveira, a sophomore from Brazil, had a hand in all three goals in WNCC's 3-1 win over LCCC that secured the Cougars a top two playoff seed. Eduardo had an assist on Alvaro Abeal's first goal of the game. Oliveira then scored the Cougars' next two goals in the 29th and then in the 58th minutes. Eduardo now has 11 goals this season and 20 goals for his Cougar career.
  • Female Athlete of the Week -- Danae Montalvo, women's soccer

    -- Female Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending September 29 -- -- Danae Montalvo, Women's Soccer -- Danae Montalvo, a freshman from Quito, Ecuador, scored two goals in the 6-0 win over Trinidad State on Friday. Also scoring two goals in the contest was Yasmin Urbina. The two goals scored by Danae were her first of the season. The first game on a penalty kick in the first half and the second came with 20 minutes to play off an assist from Ariel Veliz.
  • Make Athlete of the Week -- Anthony Lemus, Men's Soccer

    -- Male Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending September 29 -- -- Anthony Lemus, Men's Soccer -- Anthony Lemus, a freshman from Houston Texas, had a goal and an assist in the 3-0 win over Trinidad State on Friday, Sept. 27. Lemus has scored three goals for the Cougars this year with four assists. The win over Trinidad and tie with Otero moved the Cougars into first place in the conference.
  • Female Athlete of the Week -- Amanda Duarte

    -- Female Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending September 15 -- -- Amanda Duarte, Women's Soccer -- Amanda Duarte, a freshman from Brazil, had a huge goal in the Cougar women's conference game with Casper on Friday. Amanda scored in the 70th minute to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead and snapped a 3-game non-scoring streak. The goal helped the Cougars earn a tie with Casper College on the day. Duarte had two shots on goal against Casper. In the game against Gillette, Duarte had three shots in the contest as the Cougars played tough, but fell 1-0 on a goal with 15 seconds left in the first half.
  • Male Athlete of the Week -- Paul Denz, soccer
    September 18, 2024
    -- Male Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending September 15 -- -- Paul Denz, Men's Soccer -- Paul Denz, a sophomore from Laufenburg, Germany, had a big match against Gillette in helping the Cougars top the Pronghorns 4-3 on Saturday. Paul scored twice in the contest, both unassisted. His first goal came within 6 minutes of the match to tie the match at 1-1. His second goal came in the 28th minute for the 3-1 lead. Paul has two goals this season, which are the first in his WNCC career.
  • Lilly Zwart -- Female athlete of the Week

    -- Female Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending August 25 -- -- Lilly Zwart, Volleyball -- Lilly Zwart, a sophomore from New Zealand, was named the Region IX South Offensive Player of the Week for her performance in the first four matches of the year where she racked up 77 kills. She had 25 kills in a win over Butler and then tallied 24 kills and 15 service points in a win over Jefferson. She also had 22 kills in a win over Iowa Western.
  • Eduardo Oliveira -- Male Athletic of the Week

    -- Male Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending August 25 -- -- Eduardo Oliveira, Men's Soccer -- Eduardo Oliveira, a sophomore from Brazil, opened the season with three goals in two game against Utah State-Eastern and Northwest. Against No. 18 Utah State, Eduardo had two goals in the 2-1 win. Against Northwest, Eduardo had a goal and an assist as the team tied the Trappers.
  • Female Athlete of the Week for Week Ending May 5

    -- Female Athlete of the Week for the Week May 5 -- -- Jenika Fuentes, Softball -- Jenika Fuentes, a freshman infielder and pitcher from Sweetwater, Texas, for the Cougars, led the team with two wins against McCook in their final games of the season back the weekend of April 21. Jenika, in those four games, went 7-of-13 with a .538 batting average. In those four games, Jenika had six singles, one double, and four RBIs. For the season, Jenika finished with a .349 batting average with 21 singles, 10 doubles and six home runs with 26 RBIs and 28 runs scored.
  • Male Athlete of the Week for Week Ending May 5

    -- Male Athlete of the Week for the Week May 5 -- -- Bryce Peterson, Baseball -- Bryce Peterson, a sophomore infielder from Brighton, Colorado, helped the Cougars to four wins over Northeastern Junior College last week. Bryce went 5-for-11 at the plate for a .455 batting average. Bryce had three doubles and six RBIs for the week. The three doubles and six RBIs all came in one game where he plated six runs with two runs in a 6-3 win over NJC. For the season, Bryce is batting .325 with 16 doubles and four home runs44 RBIs, and 42 runs scored.
  • Female Athlete of the Week -- Sierra Hilgner

    -- Female Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending April 14 -- -- Sierra Hilgner, Softball -- Sierra Hilgner, a freshman from Divide, Colorado, had a big weekend for the Cougars as the infielder batted .583 for the four games against Luna in helping the Cougars win three of four games. Hilgner had an onbase average of .688 and had seven singles, 8 RBIs, 5 runs scored, 3 walks and 1 stolen base. Sierra had three putouts and eight assists on defense.
  • Male Athlete of the Week -- Arturo Montiel

    -- Male Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending April 14 -- -- Arturo Montiel, Baseball -- Arturo Montiel, a freshman catcher from Mexico City, Mexico, had a big game in the team's 22-12 win over Otero on Sunday. The freshman helped the Cougars tie a school record with eight home runs in one game. Montiel had three home runs in that game with six RBIs and four runs scored. Arturo was one home run away from tying the school record with home runs in a game, which is four set by Pete Rogers. For the week, Arturo was 5-of-15 with a .333 batting average with 9 RBIs, 6 runs scored, 3 home runs, and 1 double.
  • Female Athlete of the Week -- Mykah Klumpp

    -- Female Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending April 9 -- -- Mykah Klumpp, Softball -- Mykah Klumpp, a freshman from Wichita, Kansas, had a nice 4-game series with NJC on Friday and Tuesday. For the four games, Mykah batted .462 (6-of-13) with a home run, three doubles, 7 RBIs, and three runs scored. She even had five putouts from her outfield position. She is batting .373 on the season with 18 RBIs and nine runs scored. The home run against NJC was her first of the year.
  • Male Athlete of the Week -- Shintaro Inoue

    -- Male Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending April 9 -- -- Shintaro Inoue, Baseball -- Shintaro Inoue, a sophomore infielder from Japan, broke two WNCC career records in a 4-game series over Lamar. Shintaro was also named the Region IX Player of the Week as well. Shintaro broke the school career home record and career runs scored record. Shintaro now has 25 career home runs and 96 runs scored. For the weekend, Shintaro paced the offense hitting .750 (9-for-12) with three doubles, two home runs 12 RBIs and he also scored nine times and walked five times.
  • Female Athlete of the Week -- Katelynn Czerpak

    -- Female Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending March 24 -- -- Katelynn Czerpak, Softball -- Katelynn Czerpak, a sophomore from Aurora, Colorado, had a hit in all four games with Colby over the weekend. In the 4-3 win, Katelynn went 1-for-3 with a run scored with a stolen base and a walk. For the series, she was 4-for-11 with two runs scored. This season, Katelynn is hitting .393 with 29 stolen bases already this season. She has scored 22 runs.
  • Male Athlete of the Week -- Hunter McCollum

    -- Male Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending March 24 -- -- Hunter McCollum, Baseball -- Hunter McCollum, a sophomore pitcher/outfielder from Scottsbluff, had a big game in a 6-5 win over Luna on Saturday. Hunter missed hitting for the cycle in the win by a double, but had a big 2-run home run in the sixth to put the Cougars ahead. He had five RBIs in his 3-for-4 performance with two runs scored. For the three games that he hit in the series, Hunter was 5-of-12 for a .417 batting average with 6 RBIs and 4 runs scored.
  • Female Athletei of the Week -- Madi VanRiper
    March 04, 2024
    -- Female Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending March 4 -- -- Madi VanRiper, Softball -- Madi VanRiper, a sophomore from Farmington, New Mexico, had a productive weekend along with some other players. VanRiper had a big game in the fourth-game of the series with Dawson where the thirdbaseman/catcher had a big double play and then a grand slam to help the Cougars to the 10-2 win. For the 4-game series, Madi batted just .250, but had a slugging percentage of .917 with a triple and two home runs. She also scored three runs, including the game-winning run in the 10-2 win. In that game, she had five RBIs with two runs scored, a triple, and a home run. For the series, she tallied nine put outs from either her third base or catcher position and just had one base stole on her when behind the plate.
  • Male Athlete of the Week -- Kensei Oikawa

    -- Male Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending March 4 -- -- Kensei Oikawa, Baseball -- Kensei Oikawa, a freshman outfielder from Miyagi, Japan, had a big weekend for the Cougar baseball team in helping them to four wins over Dawson. Kensei led the team with a .714 batting average with an on-base percentage of .778. In the four games, Kensei went 5-of-7 from the plate with three singles, two doubles, four runs scored, and six RBIs along with two walks. His biggest game came in the opening contest when he had five RBIs in the win with two runs scored and three hits, including a double. For the year, Kensei is averaging .382 with 12 runs scored and eight RBIs with two doubles and 11 singles.
  • Female Athlete of the Week -- Gal-La Font, women's Basketball

    -- Female Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending February 14 -- -- Gal-La Font, Women's Basketball -- Gal-La Font, a red-shirt freshman from Barcelona, Spain, had a monster game against nationally-ranked NJC on Feb. 6 when she poured in a season-best 27 points. While she was hitting from the field, going 7-of-13 from the field, and she was an amazing 13-of-15 from the free throw line. She also had two steals in the contest with seven rebounds. The next week against NJC, she had six points and was just 1-of-2 from the free throw line. Gal-La is averaging 7.3 three points and 4.3 rebounds a contest.
  • Male Athlete of the Week for week ending Feb. 14

    -- Male Athlete of the Week for the Week Ending February 14 -- -- Travis Easterly, Jr., Men's Basketball -- Travis Easterly, Jr., a freshman from Youngstown, Ohio, had a big week in the last three games where he scored 41 points, including 16 points each in win over Northeastern Junior College in a week's span. In the first game against NJC on Feb. 6, Travis had two 3-pointers with his 16 points along with two assists. Then, six days later on Feb. 12, Travis scored 16 points once again by going 7-of-10 from the field to keep the Cougars in the hunt to win the South Sub-region.
